When a woman, her son and her son's girlfriend made arrangements to meet with the prospective buyer of their Apple smart phone, they never expected it to transpire the way it did. After making arrangements online, they arrived at the QuikTrip convenience store where the meet-up was to take place. The woman waited in the car for the buyer to show up while her son and his girlfriend entered the store. Three men showed up, one of whom jumped into the woman's vehicle with a gun. He demanded money and the phone. The woman's son then exited the store and saw the robbery taking place. When he saw that one of the robbers had a gun, he pulled out his own handgun and fired causing them to flee. All three men were later caught by police. A man armed himself with a breaker bar before forcing his way inside someone's home through the front door. He used it to threaten a guest of the homeowner. The homeowner and the guest ran to the bedroom and barricaded themselves inside. The intruder attempted to force the bedroom door open and continued threatening the guest. The homeowner, fearing for his safety and the safety of his guest, fired one shot from the firearm he kept in his bedroom, killing the intruder. November 1962: The manager of a waffle shop in Dallas, Jesse Ford, Jr., saw a man enter the store, pull a knife, and attack a woman customer. Ford grabbed a .38 pistol and, as the assailant ran out the door, fired several shots. The knife wielder fell dead in the parking lot outside the shop. (UPI, Dallas, Texas)
