The Armed Citizen

Three men began arguing in a busy art-district area of Miami, Fla., around 7 p.m. on Jan. 30. A witness recorded the scene, showing the three men circling, with one man seeming to make threatening advances toward another as he continually tried to back away. The aggressor suddenly lunged with a knife, wounding the retreating man in the arm. The wounded man then shot the suspected assailant, also in his arm, at which point, they walked off in different directions. Police arrested the knife-wielding man after he went to a hospital for treatment. No charges are expected against the defender. (nbcmiami.com, Miami, Fla., 1/31/25)

A couple in their 60s were in their Philadelphia, Pa., home near 11 p.m. on Feb. 3 when their security-video doorbell notified them of someone at their front door. The individual appeared to be trying to force entry, so the male homeowner confronted him. The stranger still broke through the front door, at which point, the homeowner shot him in the torso, killing him. Authorities believe the home invader, also in his 60s but unknown to the couple, was “unhoused.” No charges had been filed against the armed citizen. (nbcphiladelphia.com, Philadelphia, Pa., 2/4/25)
