A 62-year-old rabbi had returned home from his Baltimore synagogue and was taking out trash at his apartment complex around 9 p.m. on May 24 when two men approached him. The men allegedly assaulted the rabbi, knocked him to the ground and tried to steal his car. The assailants returned to the man after they failed to start the vehicle and again reportedly tried to assault him. The rabbi, however, drew a gun and pointed it at the assailants, causing them to flee without shots being fired. The armed citizen was treated at the scene for minor injuries and no arrests had been made at the time of reporting. (wbaltv.com, Baltimore, Md., 5/27/25)
A homeowner in Riverside County, Calif., called 911 to request help around 11 p.m. on May 22 because an unknown man was trying to break in. He stayed on the phone with the dispatcher, but law enforcement officers seemingly had not yet arrived when the home invader succeeded at forcing his way in. The homeowner shot the intruder and, despite paramedics attempting lifesaving measures, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was still being investigated at the time of reporting.
