The Armed Citizen

A pregnant woman in Crockett County, Tenn., was violently assaulted on April 17 in her home, including being attacked with a “knife, a pistol and strangulation,” according to police. She managed to get to a firearm, then shot and killed her assailant. “She is six months pregnant and there were two other children in the household,” the district attorney told reporters. “She had no other choice but to defend herself. That is why people have guns. In this case, she used her firearm appropriately to defend not only herself, but her children.” No charges were pending at the time of reporting. On May 2, a man inside a convenience store in Plant City, Fla., started arguing with another customer. Both men left the store, but then one man pulled a knife on the other. The threatened man responded by firing one round, killing the assailant. The investigation was ongoing, but the initial evidence points to it being a self-defense shooting under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” laws. (wfla.com, Tampa, Fla., 5/5/25)
