A man driving with his vehicle's windows down was stopped at a red light when he was approached by another man he did not know. The stranger pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the driver and demanded that he get out of the vehicle. Instead, the driver refused and pulled out his own registered firearm. After being confronted with the gun, the would-be robber fled the scene on foot. (The Palm Beach Post, West Palm Beach, Fla., 11/14/13)

A masked man entered a liquor store armed with what turned out to be a pellet gun. The suspect jumped over the front counter and put the gun to an employee's head, demanding cash from the register.  He then stole a cell phone from another employee. One employee pulled out a firearm and shot the robber in the buttocks. The suspect fled the scene, but was later arrested just a few blocks away. It was reported that the suspect was in stable condition and will likely recover from the gunshot wound. No one else was injured during the robbery. (The Oakland Tribune, Oakland, Calif., 4/28/14)
