Ronald Green, 66, was at home around 9 p.m. watching a basketball game on television when he heard someone trying to get in through the front door. He quickly went to retrieve his revolver. When he returned, a 19-year-old man he did not know had successfully kicked in the door and was standing in the entryway. The intruder attacked Green, punching him in the face. Green then fired his revolver twice striking the intruder in the chest and hip. His wounds proved fatal. Green sustained no serious injuries during the home invasion. (Omaha World-Herald, Omaha, Neb., 3/25/14)

When several suspects broke into a resident's home around 1:30 p.m., he opened fire in an effort to protect himself. One of the multiple suspects was struck in the leg while the others fled the scene. The intruder was taken to a local hospital and treated for a single gunshot wound before he was released and arrested for his crimes. No other injuries were reported in the break-in. (Chattanooga Times Free Press, Chattanooga, Tenn., 8/16/14)

From The Armed Citizen® Archives August 1977: When a deputy sheriff told Dennis Lemon that an escaped convict was on the loose near Lemon's home, he armed himself with a .30-30 rifle. When a stranger knocked at 5:30 a.m., Lemon covered him with the rifle while his wife phoned police. The man proved to be the escapee, and was taken into custody. (The News, Parkersburg, W. Va.)
