Near 5 p.m. on Aug. 1, a woman in Raleigh, N.C., parked at a grocery store. A man who had followed her there and seemed to be “road raging” got out of his car and attempted to pry open the woman’s doors. The woman feared for her life and shot the man. The attacker was taken to the hospital but died from his wounds. Security-video feeds showed the entire incident. “When someone has a reasonable fear for imminent death or bodily injury … you’re allowed to protect yourself,” the county’s district attorney told reporters. A woman returned to her Philadelphia, Pa., apartment during the early morning hours of July 16 to find four strangers inside. Thankfully, the woman was armed, so when the alleged burglars confronted her, she drew and shot two of the four; the other two fled. Police found one man outside on the ground with gunshot wounds to his right arm and right leg. The other wounded suspect was found a little farther away. Both men face burglary and related offense charges when released from the hospital. (nbcphiladelphia.com, Philadelphia, Pa., 7/16/23)
