They say the third time’s a charm, but that didn’t hold true for a Memphis man who broke into three different homes one night last week.

According to a report in localmemphis.com, 28-year-old Emmanuel Lane broke into two homes early Tuesday morning, yelling and then leaving. In the third home, a resident who was awakened by Lane standing inside his front door, screaming, then putting his hands near his jacket, shot Lane one time, putting an end to the intrusion.

Another man inside the home hit Lane with his handgun to stop him from leaving, but he escaped before police arrived. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and charges are pending.
