JD Longo came home from serving as a U.S. Marines in Afghanistan and enrolled in college. As he went to school and paid his taxes, he noticed that his community of Slippery Rock, Pa., was being poorly run. He decided to do something about it. He ran for mayor and won.

Longo has since brought common sense policies to his community. This includes respect for citizens’ Second Amendment-protected rights.

“Anybody can tell you who owns property, that when you start paying property taxes, you really start paying attention to the things that your local government and your school board are doing,” said Longo. “And so, when I decided to put a down payment on a house in downtown Slippery Rock and to enroll in Slippery Rock University, where I would go on to earn a bachelor’s in history and a master’s in education, I realized that my property taxes had been raised twice—almost 20% in just a five-year period—and yet our roads were still terrible.

“We didn’t have a 24-7 police department, and you couldn’t get anyone on the phone at the borough office if you ever needed anything. And so, I thought to myself: Why is it that we’re paying these exorbitant taxes if our constituent services aren’t matching up?

“The poor government we had was also opposed to our right to keep and bear arms. They were not in step with accountability and American freedom. So, I ran for mayor and I won. I’m glad to say that we haven’t raised property taxes in the seven years since I took office.”

Longo was also on stage in Butler, Penn., when an assassin tried to kill President Donald Trump (R). In this video, he tells that story. He also discusses what it was like to watch former President Joe Biden’s (D) horrific withdrawal from Afghanistan that left behind billions of dollars with of small arms, ammunition and lots of other military equipment.

The Incomparable, Inimitable Phil Schreier—1962-2025

The NRA took a serious hit on December 28th. We lost Phil Schreier, director of NRA Museums. He did everything the doctors asked of him and then some. But it wasn’t enough. Leukemia won, and we all lost.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.
