Today’s prize for “Most Deceptive Headline In The News”—and it’s a stiff competition nowadays—goes to Time magazine, which on Wednesday screeched, “Iowa May Allow Children to Carry Handguns.”
If by “carry,” Time meant “hold in their hands and even fire under adult supervision”—as Iowa already allows minors to do with rifles and shotguns—then the headline would be excusable, if not clear. But we suspect that upon reading “Iowa May Allow Children to Carry Handguns,” many of Time’s faithful and gullible envisioned tots toting Glocks ... which we suspect was exactly Time’s intent.
The Iowa bill, in fact, doesn’t allow minors to carry concealed firearms. And the First Amendment shouldn’t be a license for media outlets like Time to conceal, corrupt and corrode the truth with misleading headlines like this forgery.
