Twisting The Facts In North Carolina

When you detest private firearms ownership as much as Michael Bloomberg and Everytown for Gun Safety do, maybe twisting the facts to mislead voters in a paid advertisement doesn’t seem like a big deal.

That’s apparently the case in North Carolina, where Everytown for Gun Safety has made a statewide ad buy to help nix HB 562. While Everytown’s commercial makes it sound like the legislation would do away with all background checks for handgun purchases, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The legislation actually would put the state under the federal NICS system—just like the rest of the nation—doing away with an antiquated system that keeps firearms ownership under the strict control of County Sheriffs.

We’ll hope Tarheels resist falling for such claptrap, update their laws and send the misleading Everytown bunch packing.
