The pre-election political climate is a bit like football: There are ever-evolving rankings, surprising upsets, passionate spectators, occasional touchdowns, and plenty of fumbles. And, like football, sometimes you’ll get some really interesting fantasy matchups.

The new site, Battle of the Billionaires, pits Republican Donald Trump against Independent (or whichever party he’s affiliated with this week) Michael Bloomberg, and asks whether several statements apply to one, both or neither. According to creator Gary Tobin, “The great and proverbial silent majority would love to weigh in on this rivalry.”

Oddly missing is any mention of gun control. It’s unclear why—Bloomberg’s entire post-mayoral life seems devoted to it; Trump has repeatedly come out strongly against it. We’d posit any polling that neglects what’s become a key election issue is, at best, incomplete. But in the end, it’s something of a moot point: Bloomberg’s likely too busy buying politicians to contemplate actually running in 2016.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.

In his inauguration speech as the new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani said, behind his characteristically easy smile, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”
