Diners at a Waffle House near Dallas were shocked when a man entered the restaurant armed with an AK-47 and began robbing both the business and its customers. And now DeSoto police are asking for help identifying the suspect, who is on life support after being shot by a customer.

At 2:30 a.m. last Thursday, responding officers found a severely wounded man in the Waffle House parking lot. After interviewing customers, they discovered the man had burst into the restaurant carrying the firearm and robbed the business as well as several patrons.

One of the customers, who was expecting his wife to arrive shortly and feared for her safety, followed the suspect to the parking lot. The customer, who was carrying a concealed firearm, said the thief turned and pointed the rifle, giving him no choice but to shoot. The customer was not detained, and police have released photos of the suspect’s unique tattoos for help in uncovering his identity.
