While it’s no secret that gun sales have boomed during President Barack Obama’s two terms and that the number of concealed-carry permit holders has followed suit, newly released information on demographic trends is quite interesting.

According to new statistics from the Crime Prevention Center, since 2007 the number of women who have obtained concealed-carry permits has jumped a whopping 270 percent, far outpacing the increase by men of 156 percent. Also according to the report, carry permits among minorities are increasing about twice as fast as by whites.

Incidentally, during the same 2007-2014 time period that carry permits rose by a total of 178 percent (about 5.2 percent of U.S. adults now have a permit), both the murder rate and violent crime rate fell by 25 percent.

Though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 9-0 in favor of the NRA's argument in NRA v. Vullo, the decision sent the case back to a lower court, which ruled the offending government official had "qualified immunity." As a result, this case is ongoing.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
