Knife-Wielding Robber Picks Wrong Target

It sounded like a solid plan. Stake out hotels, pose as a plumber to get into guest rooms, and then rob the guest after gaining entrance to their room. All good except for one thing: Be sure to know who you are robbing.

In the case of the criminal disguised as a plumber at Colorado’s Hotel Elegante, the plan was working perfectly. His convincing act enabled him to get inside a room. After the door was closed, he pulled his hoodie over his head and displayed a knife. Unfortunately for the would-be robber, though, the guest in this instance was an off-duty soldier—an off-duty soldier with a gun.

Knife-wielding Phillip McCoy, 43, was no match for the soldier, who quickly subdued McCoy and held him down on the floor until police arrived. Officers confirmed McCoy was not a hotel employee and he was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
