Convenience Store Clerk Scares Off Armed Assailant

posted on September 18, 2015

A Frankfort, Ill., gas station clerk used a handgun to foil an attempted armed robbery in the early morning hours Tuesday. According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call from a Shell gas station around 3 a.m. about the attempted robbery.

The clerk reported that a man who was about 6 feet tall and 175 pounds, wearing a black ski mask and black clothing, walked into the store and pointed a .38-caliber handgun at him. The clerk told the suspect to leave and produced a handgun to defend himself, prompting the would-be robber to flee on foot.

The incident is still under investigation, and the Will County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the video surveillance footage. Deputies are actively working with law enforcement from the surrounding areas to identify and capture the suspect.
