Have Billboard, Will Blather

Just what we need: Another (uninformed) celebritista opining on firearms ownership. But in this case the dim blather is getting at least some of the criticism it deserves.

Such are the present fortunes of designer Kenneth Cole, who paid for a Manhattan billboard reading, “Over 40M Americans suffer from Mental Illness. Some have access to care … all have access to guns.” The message drew criticism from American Psychiatric Association President Dr. Renee Binder: “It provides the gross misimpression that people with mental illness are violent.”

Dare we suggest that, while we’re at it, we get a handle on another “gross misimpression”—the concocted connection between law-abiding gun ownership and criminal abuse?

Fun fact: In case anyone wonders where Cole gets his ignorant anti-Second Amendment notions, his father- and brother-in-law are the former and present gun-grabber governors of New York state—Mario and Andrew Cuomo.
