Armed Pennsylvania Woman Thwarts Carjacker

posted on October 3, 2016

A Swatara Township, Pa., woman used her legally carried handgun to save herself and a friend from a thief and carjacker over the weekend.

According to local police, Michael Ortiz fled a Wal-Mart store after a shoplifting attempt. He jumped in a woman’s car and demanded she drive him away from the store, threatening her and her passenger with death if they didn’t comply. However, when the car reached a red light, the passenger jumped out, pulled her handgun on Ortiz and demanded he get out of the car. Ortiz tried to take the gun from the woman, who then fired at least one shot, causing him to run away.

Neither woman was harmed in the incident, and authorities continue to search for the suspect.
