Billionaire Contributions Continue Boosting Clinton’s Coffers

posted on August 23, 2016

According to July fundraising totals submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Saturday, millions of dollars continue to pour into the Hillary Clinton presidential war chest—much of it in the form of large donations from billionaires.

During the month of July, New York hedge fund billionaire George Soros donated $1.5 million to Planned Parenthood’s super PAC and another $35,000 to Priorities USA, both of which heavily support Clinton. These contributions bring his total 2015-2016 super PAC giving to over $14 million—five times more than he spent during the last presidential election. (Priorities USA also saw multi-million dollar donations from Slim-Fast founder Daniel Abraham and financier Donald Sussman.)

California hedge-fund billionaire Tom Steyer gave $7 million to NextGen Climate Action Committee, another super PAC backing Clinton. Over the past two years, he’s given nearly $40 million to the organization.

Then there’s Michael Bloomberg, who in July gave $5 million to Independence USA, his super PAC dedicated to electing anti-gun candidates—including, of course, Hillary Clinton.
