Permit-Carrying Deliveryman Defends Himself By Returning Fire

posted on January 26, 2017

“When I turned, the gun was in my face.”

Suddenly, 36-year-old Keyveat Fredericks was looking down the barrel at armed robbers. “I have eight children. When I saw that gun, I said, ‘This can’t be it.’”

Fredericks, who was delivering pizzas for Philadelphia’s Chester Pizza, said a group approached him demanding cash as one man pointed a gun at his head. Instinctively, he knocked the gun away and ran—hearing gunfire from behind. A bullet passed through Fredericks’ arm, and ultimately struck him in the hip. Fortunately, however, Fredericks was also carrying a firearm. After taking cover behind a car, he returned fire, causing his attackers to flee. Fredericks managed to drive himself to the hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

Fredericks told WPVI-TV he’s not sure he can return to pizza delivery. “All I was trying to do was provide for my children,” he said. “It’s a job, but I don't think I can do it again.”
