Anti-Gun Lawmakers Introduce Bad Bills In Wisconsin

posted on February 24, 2017

Anti-gun Wisconsin lawmakers are wasting no time in this new legislative session, already introducing several measures that would negatively impact the state’s law-abiding gun owners.

Two measures—Assembly Bill 65 and Senate Bill 34—would greatly expand background checks to all sales and transfers in the state. Such legislation infringes on the rights of law-abiding gun owners while not impacting violent criminals at all.

In addition, Assembly Bill 74 would reinstate the 48-hour waiting period for purchase of a handgun. The state’s 48-hour waiting period was repealed in 2015 because it is an unnecessary time tax on both the purchaser and the dealer since NICS background checks confirm buyers are law-abiding before sales are allowed to be completed.

State Representatives Terese Berceau and Chris Taylor authored AB 65 and AB 74, and state Senators LaTonya Johnson and Tim Carpenter authored SB 34.
