UCF Prof: Campus Carry Is A 'Right-Wing’ Plot Against Education

Vilifying Republicans as anti-education vigilantes, University of Central Florida (UCF) English professor Barry Mauer slammed campus carry as a part of the conservative plot to destroy higher education: “The right wing doesn't want people to be educated. It wants them to be educated, but not in the ways that involve critical thinking, solidarity, citizenship,” he said.

Conservative watchdog Campus Reform reached out to Mauer for clarification of his remarks. In response, they received a six-page dissertation in which he asserts that the “right-wing worldview is best summed up by Western film star John Wayne, and that right-wingers are steeped in fantasy and looking to prove themselves by establishing dominance through violence.”

These shocking comments are not unique. The current shift from diversification of ideas to hateful indoctrination continues to manifest itself in academia. Mauer’s shocking argument that campus carry is really a Republican plot to prevent people from becoming educated perfectly describes the liberal proselytization both inside and outside of the classroom that continues to critically wound higher education.

USNews: Third Way Activists Fearmonger Over Non-Existent Suppressor Usage In Mass Shootings

In a March 14 column, Third Way activists attempted to scare the wits out of USNews readers by claiming “an influx of silencers could make (mass shootings) even more deadly.”

Authors Lanae Erickson Hatalsky and Nathan Kasai, using the disingenuous misnomer “silencers” to refer to suppressors, misled readers by intimating the devices silence muzzle blasts, instead of merely reducing the noise level to that of a jackhammer. By their reasoning, we should remove mufflers from cars so we can hear them approach before we cross the street.

They also implied that suppressors endanger law enforcement with the same flawed argument. If criminals valued suppressors, they could be making them cheaply out of oil filters—but on average, suppressors were used in only one serious crime per year from 1995 to 2005. They also dismiss concern for the health of hunters and shooters by suggesting we all just wear ear protection.

Third Way calls itself a “centrist think tank,” but their website supports every sort of gun control imaginable.

Swiss Object To EU Gun Control Schemes—Again

Once again, the European Union parliament has approved proposals to restrict gun ownership, calling for severe limits on magazine capacity for semi-autos and an expanded gun registry, among other things.

However, some, like the Swiss, aren’t having it. Following the lead of the Czech prime minister, Swiss Shooting said it would force a referendum if government adopted the proposals. Saying that existing Swiss law was sufficient to combat the illegal arms trade, Dora Andres, president of Swiss Shooting, said, “It is making citizens believe they are safe.”

Werner Salzmann, a parliamentarian for the right-wing Swiss People’s Party, urged rejection of the EU regulations. Though Switzerland, which has a long tradition of private gun ownership, is not part of the EU, membership in the 26-nation single border coalition makes them subject to the new rules.

Swiss voters rejected a national arms registry in 2011.

Gabby Giffords’ Group: Suppressors Don’t Protect Hearing

Gabby Giffords’ group, Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), decided to weigh in on suppressors and the Hearing Protection Act. They did so with a tweet reading “FACT: Silencers do not protect your hearing.” The post was accompanied by a graphic stating that the Hearing Protection Act does nothing to protect hearing. Instead, it “makes it easier for active shooters to inflict serious harm … without being detected.”

To sum up: They DON’T suppress sound enough to protect your hearing, but they DO suppress sound enough to allow criminals to shoot at will without being caught. Got it.

The truth is that despite the Hollywood myth, “silencers” or suppressors do not make guns silent, they simply reduce sound. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) determined that a decibel level greater than 140 can cause permanent hearing loss. Suppressors can lower the sound to slightly below that detrimental level, but even someone firing a suppressed gun should still wear hearing protection.

REAL FACT: Any group advocating for “responsible solutions” should be more responsible about fact-checking before tweeting.

Not Funny: Viewers Gunning For Amy Schumer After Stand-Up Special

The star of the film “Trainwreck” appears to have figuratively staged one on the streaming service Netflix. FOXNews is reporting that noted anti-Second Amendment comedian Amy Schumer’s latest special is receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews from subscribers and critics.

More than 1,300 viewers have weighed in since “Amy Schumer: The Leather Special” premiered last week, with the show mustering a rating of only one star out of five. “SO BAD!!,” said one viewer, with another adding, “Having a senator in the family may be useful for have Felony Grand Larceny charges squashed, but it can’t make you funny. She is adept at stealing other people’s jokes and making them not funny ....” Schumer has famously joined her second cousin, Senator Chuck Schumer, in campaigning for stricter gun laws.

The special hasn’t fared much better with critics. Newsday said it’s “too much” and “too carnal,” while the LA Times says it ratchets up explicit themes and “that’s not a good thing.”
