The U.S. Army announced recently that FN America has re-upped and will continue manufacturing the M240 series machine gun. The contract extension is to last for one year and is valued at $13.27 million.

This announcement comes four years after an indefinite delivery contract was awarded to FN in 2014 for the purchase of M240 machine gun variants and receivers estimated at up to $57 million.

Starting in 2011, the military has been using smaller amounts of M240L variants. These firearms incorporate a redesigned collapsible buttstock assembly and a shorter barrel, creating a lighter, more compact GPMG.
