Competitive shooter Julie Golob was asked: What mental preparation do you go through before a match?

“Because I compete in so many different shooting sports, my mental management has to be fluid based on the competition. I shoot some sports with a fixed course of fire. My preparation for those events is different for practical shooting competitions where I am shooting a new course of fire every time I step to the line. No matter the competition though, I rehearse a plan for every single shot. Some shots may require a perfect sight picture with focus on trigger control, others may be all about the speed. The more I break it down, the better prepared I am and the more confident I feel.”

Julie Golob is a U.S. Army veteran, competitive shooter and captain of Team Smith & Wesson.
