President’s Column

It’s no secret that more and more women are using firearms to protect themselves, hunt and participate in shooting sports thanks to our Second Amendment freedoms.

Law-abiding American gun owners are presently facing the most vicious and broad-based attacks this nation has ever seen on our cherished right to keep and bear arms.

The next two years may very well decide the future of the Second Amendment in America. Elections will be taking place in a handful of states this fall, and the U.S. House, U.S. Senate, and the presidency will be up for grabs in 2020.

As president of the NRA and a long-time member of its Board of Directors, I’ve seen firsthand why NRA has been so successful in achieving the remarkable track record that honest, hard-working Americans rely on and that our political enemies fear.

I’d like to share with you my eyewitness account of gun control in action.

It is with great pleasure that I address you, my fellow patriots and members of the NRA, in my first monthly column as president of the NRA Board of Directors.

On July 3, 2018, Tulsa, Okla., police Sergeant Mike Parsons put on his uniform and ballistic vest, donned his badge, strapped on his gun, and went out to serve and protect his community. He had no idea his day would end with a gunfight and a bullet in his thigh.

All law-abiding, sane Americans agree: One of our country’s top priorities should be ensuring the safety of our school children. For decades, protecting our children has been a central focus of the National Rifle Association.

As a Marine, I know all too well the bloody sacrifice of our brave men and women in the military in defense of our country, our security and our freedom.
