This feature appears in the September ‘16 issue of NRA America’s 1st Freedom, one of the official journals of the National Rifle Association.

Matt Damon thinks America should follow Australia’s lead on gun control, but he doesn’t seem to know what lead that is.

In Australia to promote his new Jason Bourne movie, American actor Matt Damon showed his disdain for the Second Amendment—and his lack of knowledge about the restrictive gun confiscation and ban instituted Down Under.

Calling for America to follow Australia’s lead, Damon said, “You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly.” Then he foolishly added, “And nobody’s rights have been infringed, you guys are fine.”

In truth, Australian authorities, through compensated forced confiscation, took some 650,000 registered firearms of all kinds from law-abiding citizens and destroyed them. Law-abiding Australian citizens were threatened with years of imprisonment for not turning in their hunting shotguns, and advertisements published by the government promoting the forced confiscation used slogans like, “No reason to have a gun,” and, “The penalties for not complying are severe.”Then he foolishly added, “And nobody’s rights have been infringed, you guys are fine.”

The ban also applied to guns owned for self-defense. One advertisement even stated, “If you own a gun which you use to protect yourself, your family or your property, you must dispose of it legally. Under the latest gun laws, personal and property protection are no longer considered acceptable reasons to possess any type of firearm, or to get a license.”

If that’s Damon’s idea of “nobody’s rights have been infringed,” we’d hate to hear what he believes real infringement might be.

In the meantime, Damon will continue to make his millions off gratuitous gun violence in his films, unless you and millions of others refuse to pay good money to support a hypocrite.
