In a deceptive television advertisement meant to bolster his anti-gun credentials, a Pennsylvania congressional candidate destroyed a .22 rifle—a move later fawned over by The York Daily Record.

In the ad, Democrat candidate George Scott, who served in the Army, said, “I was trained to use guns like these. But Donald Trump’s loyal soldiers like Scott Perry exploit guns and God to score political points.” He then dismantled a Smith & Wesson M&P 22, a rimfire rifle that shoots the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, and tossed it into a fire. Of course, Scott was touting his support for banning AR-15s, which shoot .223 Rem. or 5.56 mm cartridges—and, incidentally, are also not the same as the M16 used to train soldiers.

Unless Scott is really calling for a ban on .22s—or the U.S. military is now using .22s to train soldiers—Scott can add “liar” and “deceiver” to his proud proclamation of being a Democrat, veteran and pastor. Pennsylvania voters should also add “loser” to that list at this fall’s election.
