Eva Shockey grew up the daughter of a rugged mountain man and a feminine ballet dancer as two very different role models. “I’ve always been very ‘girly’. I didn’t have examples in my life of females who loved to hunt, so it took me years to realize that I don’t need to be one thing or the other. I can be feminine and love to hunt!” says the mother, author and TV personality. Shockey is quick to promote the benefits of an outdoor lifestyle, and just like NRA Country, she isn’t afraid to stand for what she believes. Eva took a few moments out of her very busy schedule to answer a few questions for NRA Country’s Vanessa Shahidi. Learn more about Eva at evashockey.com and follow her on Instagram and Facebook.

VS: Do you have a favorite personal firearm?

ES: I’ve been shooting Daniel Defense guns for years and I love them! They recently launched their new Delta 5 bolt-action, and I’ve been shooting its Ambush .308 before that.

VS: Tell us about one of your proudest moments in your career.

ES: I’m most proud of making the choice to stand up for myself and ignore the negativity I experienced when I was a new hunter. If I had caved to the death threats and hatred I received, I wouldn’t have experienced any of the amazing things I got a chance to do in my life, thanks to being a proud hunter.

VS: Do you have any fun stories about time with any country artists?

ES: I love, love, love country music. I hosted an archery shoot-off with Storme Warren a few years ago. Luke Bryan, Justin Moore and a bunch of others shot in it, and I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard. As much as those guys are all friends and love to entertain, they also take competition very seriously so it was hilarious to watch them all get fired up and trash talk each other whenever someone made a bad shot.

NRA Country is a lifestyle and a bond between the country music community and hard-working Americans everywhere. It’s powered by pride, freedom, love of country, respect for the military and the responsibilities of protecting the great American life. Gun Skills | Press Check

Back when I was a new gun owner, I drilled in a habit of checking to be sure my firearm was unloaded, which was also a terrific opportunity to work on gun-handling skills like racking the action and activating the controls.

The Incomparable, Inimitable Phil Schreier—1962-2025

The NRA took a serious hit on December 28th. We lost Phil Schreier, director of NRA Museums. He did everything the doctors asked of him and then some. But it wasn’t enough. Leukemia won, and we all lost.

No More Tax on Suppressors!

When President Donald Trump (R) signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBB) into law on July 4, 2025, he scheduled the end of the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed on suppressors, short-barreled firearms and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA). That end came on January 1.

Armed Citizens are the “Rugged Individualists” Mamdani Despises

In his inauguration speech as the new mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani said, behind his characteristically easy smile, “We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism.”

Conscientious Carry

While going about armed, you need to fit into society responsibly and politely. Here’s how.
