1. A Faster Pack
In the 80s, we called them fanny packs; now they’re more accurately (and less objectionably) called waist packs. Whatever you call them, these packs are making a comeback because they’re useful. And it’s hard to imagine a better one than the Galco FasTrax PAC, which comes in various sizes and styles to suit both your carry gun and lifestyle. The separated compartment with a built-in holster makes this bag a safer option than other waist packs, and Galco has designed the holster to pivot up the handle of your gun when you pull a cord, making it far easier to grip once you practice the mechanism. Admittedly, doing this requires fine motor skills that you may lose in a self-defense scenario, but you can still access the gun even if you can’t figure out the cord in the moment. The holster is swappable for left-handed use as well. ($104.00; galcogunleather.com)

2. A Tough Multi-Tool
Is there any better invention than the multi-tool? (Aside from automobiles and indoor plumbing, of course.) I have multi-tools on each floor of my home, in my vehicle, in my go bag and at work because I end up needing a screwdriver, knife, pliers or whatever else so often and I really don’t want to have to schlep myself over to the garage every time. The Titanium Pocket Multi-Tool from TRUE has everything I need, including a titanium nitride coating for long-lasting durability, 90- and 180-degree locking, three blades, pliers with wire cutters, a magnetic bit driver and an awl and bottle opener—plus it’s an easy-to-notice color so you can more easily grab it when you need it. ($49.99; true.acgbrands.com)

3. A Handcrafted Holster Belt
Holster belts are ubiquitous and it’s hard to know what to look for. Plus, of course, there’s no one right answer—different uses and different styles mean different belts. So long as the belt has strength, rigidity and durability, it’s probably a decent choice. The Independence Leather Gun Belt from We The People Holsters, though, which is handcrafted of 100% premium full-grain leather and reinforced with heavy-duty scuba nylon, takes these qualities to a new level and is very attractive as well.
