The idea of training for a knife fight has long presented the challenge of what kind of tool to use to represent a knife that will replicate the real thing without risk of injury. Now, NextLevel Training has an answer.

The company is best known for its SIRT guns. The name SIRT was devised to serve for the gun models, as it stands for Shot Indicating Resetting Trigger; but don’t let that discourage you from taking a look at this SIRT knife.

Like NextLevel Training's gun models, the SIRT knife is designed to feel like a real knife in your hand, in terms of dimensions and weight. Also like its gun models, the knife product is easy to identify as not being a real knife.

Because the rubber blade is in a fixed open position, you won’t be able to practice opening it as a prelude to any defensive training, but that shouldn’t hinder your ability to go through various close-combat drills.

The challenge was to find the right material to use so the blade would be rigid enough for the purpose of giving you the right feel, but easily collapsible upon contact. After meeting those requirements, the NextLevel Training team put the product through its paces, testing the rubber blade through more than 100,000 “stabbings” to see how well it stands up to rigorous use.

With an MSRP of $19.95, it could be a good stocking stuffer for someone you know who likes to practice defensive maneuvers to fend off attackers with a knife.
