This firearm's inventor had a long and diverse history in the firearm industry. His resume included the likes of Remington Arms, Sharps Rifle Co., Winchester Repeating Arms, Colt’s Patent Firearms Manufacturing Co., Pioneer Breech-Loading Arms Co., and even Singer Sewing Machine Co.

He was born outside of the United States, but moved to America at the age of 16. Here, he quickly made his mark as a skilled engineer and held nearly a dozen firearm patents over his lifetime—five in the U.S., four in Germany and two in Britain. Perhaps surprisingly, he also held many non-firearm patents as well, including a rock drill, a shirt-neck shaper, gas burners, ball-bearings, a wire-straightener and various electrical apparatus.
