Supporters of Everytown for Gun Safety have made it clear they want to end gun ownership entirely in response to the organization’s recently launched “firearms-training” program, Train SMART.
USA Today reported that Train SMART “met stiff opposition from [Everytown’s] own members and longtime supporters.” The article claimed that Everytown’s “training” could signal a shift toward “harm reduction” instead of outright “abstinence” only to then make it clear that Everytown’s supporters are appalled by this and truly favor “abstinence.” In short, they abhor gun ownership and seek to abolish it entirely.
One interviewee called it Others echoed similar sentiments and voiced disdain for Everytown’s “training” program.
The NRA, meanwhile, noted that Everytown is still a gun-ban organization.
“Whether Everytown’s training will still exist by next year remains to be seen. But the reaction of its supporters has already taught—or at least, reinforced—an important lesson every gun owner in America should remember. Gun-control advocates don’t want you to be safe and responsible with guns. They just don’t want you to have them at all,” reported the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA).
Not surprisingly, this alleged training is only available online; though Everytown has hopes of adding “in-person and range sessions next year.”
As NRA-ILA noted: “It goes without saying that firearms training that involves no handling or discharge of guns under expert supervision is of limited value. But if the goal is mainly to discourage gun ownership, a virtual format makes sense.”
The organization’s “lead trainer” also indicated that students will be taught that “purchasing a firearm will increase the risk someone in your home will be shot” and that “you should not always assume buying a gun will be the key part of your home defense plan.”
In stark contrast, the NRA offers real training all around the nation from a network of more than 125,000 NRA-certified instructors, 8,000 coaches and 2,200 training counselors. To learn more about the gold standard of firearm training, visit firearmtraining.nra.org.
