The Armed Citizen

A man in Keithville, La., attempted to resolve a heated argument with a coworker on June 27 by getting into his truck. However, the coworker came to his truck as well and allegedly began hitting the first man in the head. Fearing for his life, the victim drew his gun and fired two shots at the assailant. The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries and faces a charge of simple battery upon release from the hospital. Investigators determined that the shooting was an act of self-defense. On June 30, just before midnight, a man allegedly entered a home in Elkhorn City, Ky., and threatened the homeowner and family. The intruder reportedly had a gun, which the homeowner was able to take from him, but the assailant then allegedly pulled another gun and attempted to fire a shot. Fortunately, that gun did not discharge. The homeowner grabbed his own firearm and shot the home invader in the leg. Reports say the wounded man attempted to fire the malfunctioning gun again, this time pointing it at a woman in the residence, but it again did not fire. The homeowner forced the man out of the residence and called authorities. Troopers found the suspect in an alley nearby but noted that he still had the gun and appeared intoxicated. They finally took the man into custody after a standoff that lasted several hours. He faces numerous charges including alcohol intoxication, resisting arrest, attempted murder and terroristic threatening.
