If you love country music and are most at home outdoors you should be familiar with The Brothers Hunt (Dan and Reid Isbell, top right). Describing themselves as “conservationists, hunters, songwriters,” they are crushing it in Nashville, Tenn., having written songs for Luke Combs, Justin Moore, Kenny Chesney, Craig Campbell, Scotty McCreery and others. But when they’re not on Music Row penning the next big hit for country radio, they’re chasing elk on a snow-covered ranch in Montana or hunting turkey with friends and family. NRA Country’s Vanessa Shahidi asked them a few questions.

VS: Growing up, who taught you about the outdoors?

RI: Our dad had us in the field before we could chew solid food. If he took a good buck, he’d check us out of school early, lay a blanket on the ground and let us hang out while he butchered the deer and talked about why hunting is important. That was his way of teaching and equipping us with the skills it takes to be effective, efficient hunters.

VS: Have you had memorable hunts with other artists?

DI: We’ve doubled on long beards with Luke Combs, chased deer and turkey with Jon Langston, Meghan Patrick and Lee Brice. We also do a ton of hunting and fishing with a bunch of our songwriting pals such as Randy Montana, Jonathan Singleton, Adam Sanders and Dallas Davidson.

VS: Tell us about launching your recent podcast.

RI: As The Brothers Hunt, we’ve been given a unique platform to promote and educate others on the ethics of hunting and how they, too, can put fresh organic meat on their own table. We’ve got some super interesting people booked for the podcast. Artists, writers, hunters and a few randoms with some incredible stories. We’d love to hear from you. Keep up with us @TheBrothersHunt on all social media!
