Competitive shooter Tony Holmes was asked: What would you say when someone criticizes our Second Amendment and wants to pass more gun control laws in the wake of a tragedy, like a school shooting?

“The Second Amendment was written to protect the people of this country against a tyrannical government and the ability to protect themselves and their home. It doesn’t decide what particular guns should be disallowed.

“There already are enough gun laws on the books that need to be enforced. New gun laws will not stop evil people with evil intent. When evil decides to create havoc, any number of ways have been used, but only the gun gets blamed when it is the weapon of choice. No one blames the car, truck, pressure cooker, knife, baseball bat, hammer, etc. Where is the outcry to ban any of these items? Instead, they blame the individual, as should be the case every time.

“I believe teachers should be allowed to be armed in our schools if they choose to. Training and/or qualification should be required to help put people at ease with this. And metal detectors and armed security guards should also be added.

“There is a new security system in place at one of our schools in Indiana which looks promising as a positive program. It's called a Best Practice Solution, and will soon make its debut at Southwestern High School in Shelbyville, Ind.”

Tony started competing in 1974 at the age of 13 in NRA High-Power and Small-bore Rifle matches. Throughout Tony’s professional competitive shooting career, he has consistently proven himself as a top competitor in a variety of shooting disciplines, which includes IPSC, Action Pistol, Long-Range Silhouette Rifle. But its 3-Gun that remains his favorite shooting discipline.
