One hundred years after the attacks that inspired this summer blockbuster, it became the highest-grossing film of its day.

The movie was based off a best-selling novel that at one point was titled “Leviathan Rising.” Charlton Heston was considered for the role in the movie, but it went to a different actor.

First featured in the September 2002 issue of NRA America’s 1st Freedom magazine, this Greener’s Light Harpoon Gun saved the day—and the summer.

Do you know what venerable rifle this harpoon gun was based upon? What cartridge was used to fire it? Can you name the movie classic and the one that surpassed it in sales? Click here to get the answers, and to get a downloadable high-resolution pdf of this famous, but doomed, firearm from the annals of the NRA National Firearms Museum.
