The first month of 2021 saw an astonishing number of firearms purchased, building upon the record-setting numbers from last year.

According to new data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), January saw more than two million background checks conducted for the purchase of a firearm via the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). Incredibly, this is 75% higher than January 2020.

There are a multitude of factors that contributed, but none seem more responsible for the continued increase in firearms purchases than the new residents in the White House.

“It can’t be discounted that many of these background checks for the purchase of a firearm are attributed to threats by the Biden administration to enact the most radical and far-reaching gun control agenda ever proposed. Americans are continuing to purchase firearms at a blistering pace. That’s undoubtedly connected to President Joe Biden’s plans to attack the firearm industry, which started with freezing the publication of the Office of the Comptroller of Currency’s ‘Fair Access’ banking rule. The Biden administration interfered with an independent government agency to further an agenda and perpetuate the illegal Operation Choke Point by farming it out to corporate banks,” said Mark Oliva, the NSSF’s director of public affairs.

As reported previously by America’s 1st Freedom, the Biden administration recently went after firearms manufacturers, whom President Joe Biden called the “enemy” during a primary debate, by pausing a rule that would ensure that large banks provide fair access to their services.

Beyond this, Biden has repeatedly said that he intends to go after the firearms industry, as well as Americans who choose to lawfully exercise their constitutional rights. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have made it clear that they also intend to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects firearms manufacturers from being held liable for the criminal misuse of their products.

This is just the beginning of the their plans to further infringe upon your Second Amendment rights. Meanwhile, Americans are responding by buying guns.

“January’s NICS figures clearly spell out that the demand of law-abiding Americans to purchase firearms isn’t abating. It is growing. Americans are claiming their Second Amendment rights to provide for their own safety in record numbers,” said Oliva.

In fact, three of the top 10 weeks, and one top 10 single day for the highest number of background checks, occurred this past month. The NSSF takes the NICS numbers and factors out checks that are unlikely to be used for the purchase of a firearm in order to more accurately represent the number of firearms purchased.

Last year saw more than 21 million background checks conducted for the purchase of a firearm, and if the first month of this year is any indicator, 2021 will likely continue the trend.
