President Joe Biden (D) has long made his anti-Second Amendment intentions known, but his recent, ostensibly false statements show that not only does he want to restrict your rights, he’s also willing to lie to get his way.

Biden held a press conference on April 8 to address what he calls an “epidemic of gun violence” in our nation. Vice President Kamala Harris and Attorney General Merrick Garland also made remarks before and after the president, respectively.

Here are Biden’s four biggest whoppers:

  1. “Universal background checks are supported by the vast majority of the American people.”

As America’s 1st Freedom recently reported, it’s hard to get half of Americans to agree on anything, much less the “vast majority.” Thanks to deceptive wording and dishonest polling, this oft-cited “vast majority” is far from accurate. If it were true, why did voters in Maine recently reject a ballot initiative that would have expanded background checks to a level Biden says he wants?

  1. “Most people don’t know: If you walk into a store and you buy a gun, you have a background check. But you go to a gun show, you can buy whatever you want and no background check.”

Biden likes to reference loopholes that don’t actually exist. Whether it’s the purported “gun-show loophole” or the so-called “Charleston loophole,” these are politically invented terms, much like “assault weapons.” As the NRA Institute for Legislative Action reported, “There is no ‘gun show loophole.’ Since 1994, federal law has required dealers to initiate a background check before selling or otherwise transferring a firearm, whether at a gun show or anywhere else.”

  1. “And we should also eliminate gun manufacturers from the immunity they received from the Congress. You realize—again, the people here—because they’re so knowledgeable out here in the Rose Garden. But what people don’t realize: The only industry in America—a billion-dollar industry—that can’t be sued—has exempt from being sued—are gun manufacturers.”

This is perhaps Biden’s favorite lie of them all, one he has proclaimed numerous times on the campaign trail, on his website and now from the Rose Garden. America’s 1st Freedom has reported on numerous occasions that this is a lie. Firearms manufacturers don’t have any special immunity as Biden claims. If a product is defective or if the manufacturer violates any other product liability standards, they can be sued just like in any other industry. They cannot be sued, however, for the criminal misuse of their products, much like a car or knife manufacturer should not be held liable should a criminal misuse their products. Biden wants to eliminate this protection so frivolous lawsuits can be used to bankrupt gun manufacturers and dealers.

  1. “Today, we’re taking steps to confront not just the gun crisis, but what is actually a public health crisis. Nothing—nothing I’m about to recommend in any way impinges on the Second Amendment.”

What more needs to be said here? The Second Amendment clearly states that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Biden’s laundry list of anti-gun actions clearly infringes on Second Amendment rights. Not only that, but Biden also wants to label this a “public-health” issue, as that would allow federal agencies to gut the Second Amendment.

Don’t worry, though, Biden says none of this will affect your Second Amendment rights, so it must be true, right? As Vice President Kamala Harris pointed out in her opening remarks, “as vice president, Joe Biden led the Obama-Biden administration’s efforts to reduce gun violence.” Remember “Operation Choke Point” and “Operation Fast and Furious?” As Harris says, Biden led these efforts, too.
