The Armed Citizen

On the morning of Jan. 18, police in Killeen, Texas, went to the home of a man suspected of multiple armed robberies and who had a warrant for aggravated robbery. When the man was confronted, he reportedly fled in his vehicle, leading the officers on a chase, sometimes going more than 120 miles per hour. During the chase, the suspect crashed his car and allegedly attempted to steal another driver’s vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle, seeing the carjacker’s gun as he tried to overtake the vehicle, drew his own gun and shot the suspect several times. The assistant chief of police said they believed the victim defended himself, doing what he had to do. The suspect was taken into custody and was listed in stable condition after surgery. An employee of a vape shop in Rock Island, Ill., shot at three suspects attempting to rob the business. The suspects, at least one of whom was armed, entered the store and started threatening employees and demanding merchandise. The armed employee shot at the suspects, wounding two and causing all to flee. Police later found one of the wounded men, who was on parole during this incident, at a fast-food restaurant and transported him to a hospital, where he died. Police also found a second wounded suspect and transported him to the hospital; he was expected to survive and was charged with armed robbery. Detectives were still searching for the third suspect.
