The Armed Citizen

On the morning of Feb. 13, a woman was driving with her window down in Houston, Texas, when she noticed another vehicle being driven erratically. The woman attempted to pass that vehicle, but the two collided (fault in the wreck was not reported). The erratic driver left his vehicle and attacked the woman in her vehicle, allegedly strangling her through her window. Fortunately, the woman was able to fire a shot at the man, ending the attack. The man was taken into custody and security videos corroborate the woman’s account. Law-enforcement officials urged drivers to remain calm and not make eye contact when road rage is a factor, but “you do have to defend yourself” in cases of imminent threat. Around 8 p.m. on March 6, a man entered an auto parts store in Terre Haute, Ind., to “dispute a trespass order against them.” The trespasser was told to leave, leading to a brief altercation. The suspect then retrieved a gun from his vehicle, re-entered the store and pointed the gun at one of the employees. A customer witnessing this attack shot the assailant multiple times to defend the employee. The suspect left in a vehicle driven by a relative but was later located at a hospital. Cynical Strategies To Subvert The Protection Of Lawful Commerce In Arms Act

Since President George W. Bush signed the bipartisan Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) into law on Oct. 26, 2005, those bent on civilian disarmament have sought to bypass the legislation’s clear commands. In fact, 20 years later, gunmakers were fending off a frivolous nuisance suit from the city of Gary, Ind., filed in 1999, despite the PLCAA and state-analogue legislation.
