Bloomberg Donates $20 Million for Senate Races

With control of the U.S. Senate up for grabs this November, billionaire media mogul Michael Bloomberg is throwing his money behind hotly contested races that could affect the balance of power in the chamber.

Bloomberg wrote a check for $20 million to the Senate Majority PAC. That comes on top of his $80 million investment that has been spread out among House candidates.

Well-heeled gun control advocates have turned the money faucets wide open for this year’s midterm election. It’s happening not just on the national level, but in state races as well, where Tom Steyer’s $6.6 million support of Andrew Gillum is the most recent big influx of cash for Democrats who back so-called “common-sense” gun safety measures.

The Senate Majority PAC is run by allies of Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. Super PACs are allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections.

But NRA members have stood up to such challenges before, most notably in 2016, when all signs pointed to Hillary Clinton winning the presidency. If the Democrats gain the upper hand in the House or Senate, that will effectively block anything that could help the Second Amendment for the rest of President Donald Trump’s term, so it’s more important than ever for those who cherish gun rights to vote.
