President Joe Biden has frequently made clear his intent to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), and now it seems some members of Congress are looking to follow suit.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) reintroduced H.B. 2814, a bill designed to achieve Biden’s goal of eliminating the PLCAA. The last version of the bill was titled the “Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act.”

Speaking in 2019 about the bill’s previous iteration, Schiff said, “The gun industry should not enjoy special privileges and protections. … This bill would pierce the gun industry’s liability shield by putting an end to the special protections the gun industry receives.” He added that his goal was to “correct the error Congress made” by passing the PLCAA in 2005.

This is a blatantly dishonest attack on firearms manufacturers, one that echoes Biden’s repeated calls for repealing the PLCAA.

Long has the president made it known that he intends to take away manufacturers’ “liability shields,” as his press secretary also misleadingly labeled the PLCAA. In a recent press conference, Biden said that if he could ask God for one thing, it would be this.

As America’s 1st Freedom has reported many times, the PLCAA does not, in fact, afford the firearms industry any special protections. According to the law, gun makers and dealers simply cannot be held liable for the criminal misuse of their products, much like any other industry should not be blamed for the actions of criminals; however, they can be held liable for defective products, misleading advertising, and for breaking any laws, also like any other industry.

America’s 1st Freedom will keep you informed on the progress of this egregious bill that underhandedly goes after the firearms industry.

Policing Should Not Be A Political Issue

Crime is a complicated topic, but there is an extremely simple rule that must be observed before one can begin to fight it effectively: One must genuinely wish to deal with the problem. Without such an elementary ambition, no amount of legislation, activity, taxpayer money or speechmaking will make the slightest bit of difference.
